Unlike his brothers, Clayton Mathis isn’t looking for the woman of his dreams. He works hard, plays harder, and enjoys every minute of it. And with his family preparing to expand Shadow Maverick Ranch, settling down is the last thing on his mind—until a sexy blonde makes him an offer he can’t refuse.
Of all the men in the bar, Ainsley Russell has to go and proposition the one man who will cause her nothing but trouble. The Mathis family has been persistent in their bid to buy her property. Inheriting her uncle’s ranch has given her the first home she’s ever known … along with a mountain of debt that threatens to take it all away.
After learning Clay’s identity, Ainsley can’t run fast enough. Or far enough … since the gorgeous cowboy shows up on her doorstep the next morning, looking to pick up where they left off the night before…
Once again Parker Kincade captures my complete attention with one of the boys of the Shadow Maverick ranch. This story is about Clayton Mathis, a sexy rough and ready cowboy *le sigh* and the sassy woman, Ainsley Russell, who takes no prisoners. Poor Ainsley has just been dealt blow after blow by life. A product of the foster system, she learns early on to depend on herself. But little does she know that she has a long lost relative … who dies … leaving her with a defunct and dilapidated farm. Ainsley does her best to keep the farm afloat but the expenses are coming in faster than any income so she treads water. But hope comes in the form of a sale offer from Gavin Mathis, Clay’s brother. Crazy as it seems, Ainsley doesn’t want to sell. She doesn’t want to quit. Not for loyalty to a relative she didn’t know but the farm gives her an opportunity to have something she’s never had — a home. After a disastrous meeting with a bank officer, Ainsley decides to blow off steam by visiting the local watering hole, which puts in the direct path of Clay Mathis. Clay spots the petite, blonde beauty and she is whooping up on the local ranchers, and beating them out of their money, during a game of pool. Ainsley spots Clay watching her and the game is on. She wants him and he wants. What starts out as a one night stand turns into so much more.
Cowboy Redeemed is my second favorite book in the Shadow Maverick series. Borrowed Cowboy was my absolute fav with White Collar Cowboy being a close third. What’s not to love about a hot cowboy! But I liked Clay and Ainsley. They were so sweet together and Clay, who quickly fell for Ainsley, wanted to do right by her when it came to acquiring her farm. He didn’t want her to be taken advantage of or bullied, which he quickly proved when Ainsley received an early morning visit from an demanding banker. Clay was right there, standing guard and backing her up…and this is only one day after meeting her. His protective instincts toward her only grew the more time they spent together. He actually went against his family’s desires of encouraging Ainsley to sell. Instead, he went behind their backs to attempt to broker a new deal that would give them the land they wanted but would keep Ainsley in her home. Only…that didn’t turn out as he’d planned. Yikes. No good deed goes unpunished. But it all worked out in the end and Ainsley got the home and the family she always wanted.
I can’t wait to see what Kincade has in store for the rest of the series. My guess is that Dakota’s story will be next. He’s not a Mathis, per se but he’s a good friend with a story just burning to be told :).
